Winner: Gayego by Gilded Time
Gayego (c, 4, Gilded Time--Devils Lake, by Lost Code), winner of last year's GII Arkansas Derby, made his first start under the Godolphin blue a winning one, surging late to take the G3 Mahab Al Shimaal S. by three-quarters of a length.

Purchased privately following a two-length score in a Hollywood Park optional claimer Nov. 30, the dark bay closed down the far outside to nip Big City Man (Northern Afleet), who led into the final 100 meters. The winner's stablemate Diabolical (Artax) raced prominently early, but was out-kicked late and settled for third in his first start since a second in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint Oct. 25.
